Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
A rope ladder or boards nailed to the tree trunk to form a ladder
A trapdoor with a latch
Mismatched wooden planks 
A cut-out window with cloth or a t-shirt nailed over it to make curtains
Ratty furniture or plastic crates to sit on
Carpet remnants for a floor rug
