HELPFUL TIP:

Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
A rocky shoreline with colorful gravel
Worn, gnobby driftwood littering the shoreline
Waves lapping the edge
Debris littering the shoreline (wood fragments, litter, leaves, duckweed, foamy pollution scum, etc.)
Spindly-legged skimmers running across the surface in short bursts
Minnows scuttling between rocks
Ducks floating among the weeds
Waddling geese plucking grass along the grass slope or preening long elegant wings in the sunshine
Seagulls scavenging picnic areas for garbage left behind
Dragonflies skimming across the water's surface
Mosquitoes and horseflies swarming the air
Chairs and blankets spread out on the shore
A sun-worn dock with tied-up boats swaying in the current
A paved boat launch
Children in colorful swimsuits playing at the water's edge
Teenagers floating on inner tubes or treading water and splashing each other
Kids in life vests paddling out in blow-up boats
Fishermen at the end dock dropping lines into the water
Boats and jet skis racing back and forth in the deep water
