Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
A gravelly patch of bare ground ringed by trees and bushes
A man-made fire pit with a pile of scavenged deadfall
A picnic table (holding a jug of water, a portable dish station, plastic or paper plates and cups, condiments, hot dog buns, marshmallows)
A chest filled with ice and drinks (beer, wine coolers, pop, water)
A portable grill
Lawn chairs or wood stumps circling the fire pit
A bright blue tarp strung between trees in case of rain
