HELPFUL TIP:

Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
Tall double doors
Stalls or pens with simple latches to hold the animals (horses, cows, sheep, goats, etc.)

Equipment hanging on the wall (shovels, a hay grapple, ropes, pitchforks, brooms)
Feeding troughs and buckets
Sacks or bins of oats
A salt lick worn into a groove
Flies buzzing close to the animals
Spiders spinning webs across posts and in the rafters
Dust and chaff floating in the sunlit air
Rusty nails
Strands of horse hair caught on rough stall rails
Piles of manure

Dirty clumps of straw
Cats, dogs, chickens, and geese roaming around
