HELPFUL TIP:

Conflict is your story’s secret sauce, supplying tension, relationship friction, and complications to a character’s journey. It comes in a million different forms, so identify the obstacles and problems that will hit your character the hardest by using the Character Builder to uncover their primary insecurities, fears , and desires. NOTES:
A child falling ill can be a temporary inconvenience that disrupts the character's schedule when time is of the essence, or it can be a devastating event that turns their entire world upside down. 

EXAMPLES:
Developing an infection (sinusitis, pneumonia, strep throat, etc.)
Having a severe allergic reaction 
Getting food poisoning
Coming down with something contagious (pink eye, the flu, scarlet fever, etc.)
Suffering from motion sickness on a long car ride
Being diagnosed with in incurable disease (HIV, epilepsy, Muscular Dystrophy, diabetes, etc.)
Being stricken with cancer
Having an asthma attack

MINOR COMPLICATIONS:
Having to miss work to care for the child
Feeling guilty for having to work and leave a slightly ill child at home alone
Difficulties arising from the child missing school
Having to administer medication on a set schedule
The child crying or complaining
Being unable to obtain a medical appointment in a timely manner
The child refusing to take their medication or get a shot
Having to launder soiled bedding or clothing
Adjusting a child's diet or environment to improve their illness
Figuring out the needs or pain of a nonverbal child 
Managing other children while caring for the one who is sick
